How to Legally Change Your Name in Missouri

If you are seeking to change your name or gender or you want to change your child's legal name, it is a straightforward process. When changing an adult's name the court looks to ensure that you are not changing your name just to avoid creditors. When changing the name of a minor child the court wants to ensure that both parents have given their written consent to any name change of a person under the age of 18. When the name change is approved the court orders publication of the name change in the local newspaper. Once the publication is complete the name change becomes final.

With a gender change we try to protect the confidentiality of our clients to the extent permitted by law. There is a short hearing required for the gender change and depending on the situation publication in the local newspaper may still be required. We also assist you with obtaining a new birth certificate afterwards. Our office has handled several gender changes and we welcome all clients who need
