As a father, you have a right to care for your children and it is understandable to wish for more meaningful involvement in their lives. Whatever familial issue you are facing, our firm can help you establish paternity in order to establish your rights as a parent.

Why Establish Paternity?

There are many circumstances where establishing paternity could prove beneficial. If you are a father and wish to exercise your parental rights, establishing paternity can grant you access to certain privileges. Once proven to be the father, he could fight for child custody or visitation rights.

Contrarily, a mother may seek to establish paternity in order to secure child support for her children. Once paternity is confirmed, the mother may then move to secure child support payments from the father. Paternity can also be used in adoption cases, in obtaining an inheritance, as well as healthcare matters.

How to Establish Paternity

Paternity can typically be established through a civil proceeding, which is an action in court. It must be proven "more likely than not" that the man is the father of the child, which is usually established by DNA testing. Medical testing can be performed by the analysis of genetics in the father and the child, which can be determined with the use of a simple DNA sample.
