Can't Afford a Lawyer—Consider Limited Scope Representation

At Columbia Family Law Group LLC we understand that not everyone can or wants to pay for full service legal representation. If this situation applies to you, please consider the following alternatives:

The judicial branch website at www.courts.mo.gov has a link to the court forms under the "Represent Yourself" tab. Here, you can access a pamphlet with fill-in divorce forms. These forms request all of the information necessary to file your own divorce, petition for child custody, motion to modify custody or child support, or motion for family access order. It's best to read through all of the forms first, gather the necessary information and then type in the forms online. You can then print out completed forms.

Completing these forms on your own will save you the attorney's fees associated with having our office draft the forms. This website also requires that you complete an education program online which will assist you with deciding whether you can represent yourself or whether you really need to obtain an attorney. Once you have the forms completed, you then have the following options:

Consultation with Review of Already Completed Paperwork: $150 - $250

Our consultation rate for reviewing paperwork that you have already completed to make sure it is appropriate for filing with the court ranges from $150 to $250. The consultation lasts up to two hours and we try to answer any questions that you may have, explain your legal rights and make sure that you have the paperwork properly completed and ready for you to file on your own at the courthouse.

Go to Court with You

Already have the paperwork completed but afraid to go to court on your own? For an additional flat fee of $200 we will go to court with you in order to finalize your uncontested divorce. This fee is in addition to the $150 - $250 consultation and is based on whether you want representation in court or not.

It's More Complicated Than That?

If your case is more complicated than you completing the paperwork yourself and going to court please ask us about limited scope representation. Maybe you just need a Qualified Domestic Relations Order drafted. Perhaps you can't quite get the Judgment in the form that the judge is requiring. Maybe you just have the child support amount left to negotiate. Ethical rules now allow us to consult with you about your case without actually appearing for you in court. This is called Limited Scope Representation and if you can't afford to pay a full retainer for traditional representation please ask us about Limited Scope Representation options.
