Whether you live in Columbia, Missouri or elsewhere, a divorce can be difficult to go through. When couples have been married for a significant amount of time and when valuable assets are at stake, though, a divorce can become even more complex.
Astronaut Buzz Aldrin was the second man to step on the moon. While he has had a successful career, it appears he has had less success in marriage. Aldrin officially split from his wife of 23 years recently. It was his third marriage. The 82-year-old filed for divorce in June 2011.
The couple did not have any children together, so they did not have to settle child custody or child support matters. However, complex financial matters had to be sorted through. In the end, Aldrin's former wife walked away with $237,500 from a bank account. She will also take half of the profits the astronaut earns from his businesses.
In addition, Aldrin's third wife will receive close to $10,000 a month in spousal support. She will also be given 30 percent of Aldrin's annual income.
No one expects that their marriage will end in divorce. People who get married usually assume they will be together indefinitely. For some couples, though, a divorce becomes their only option.
Every divorce case is different. Some couples agree on most matters, whereas other couples may find it difficult to find any common ground. In order to achieve the most optimal outcome for both parties, people in Columbia and others elsewhere would likely find it best to sort through matters with the help of an experienced attorney.
